What defines our team of some 100 employees at the fromagerie Hamel? All are passionate. Passionate about good food, and passionate about providing the best customer service and care there is. We have a saying at Hamel that serves as impetus and basis for all employee training: “A pleasure shared is a pleasure magnified.”
When joining our team, every member is offered the opportunity to learn about cheeses and the business and to make a career with us. Learning is not a privilege offered to a select few at Hamel, but a philosophy. It is the way we are, do things, build our business, treat our employees. We consider it as a means to “mature” knowledge. This ever-increasing know-how gives our team members an expertise quite unique in our business and very valuable for our customers.
Employees continue training over time. They develop their skills set, moving up from Sales Attendant to Senior Sales Attendant, then Consultative Cheesemonger. All in all, it takes over 3,650 hours of formal and hands-on training to reach that goal. The end result is an extremely competent crew, skilled in providing guidance and helpful advice and in meeting the expectations of our customers, many as passionate as we are.
